Philosophical Monday

Fall 1
Leaves in the light of a flash

It was dark and rainy when I biked to work today at 7am. The air was damp and soggy. The sky was overcast.

And it was dark and rainy when I biked home from work today at 4.45pm. The air was damp and soggy. The sky was overcast.

I hadn't seen the blue sky all day.

Looking out my office window I saw a grey sky. Rain. Bright yellow leaves. And some red ones. A couple of brown ones on the ground.

Biking home I really struggled not to get all moody about fighting the wind and rain (the typical fall weather for us in the south of Sweden). I was wearing my rain gear but had made a mistake when chosing shoes in the morning. My socks were wet after three minutes on the bike... I might have sworn a bit and I might have felt sorry for myself...

Then it hit me. That fall is about more than colour changes. There is actually something very grounded about the fact that the trees loose their leaves and that flowers wither. That it marks a time to recover and regain strength before coming to life again in the spring. I could see the role that fall has in the life around me, and sitting on that bike, I decided to let fall play that role in me too.

I will recover and regain strength before coming to life again in the spring. I will focus on my breathing and things that make me feel good; being creative, reading, loving, baking, walking and smiling. I will take care of myself so I can start next year in sync with the trees around me.

I believe that I shall print out this post and put it on my wall at work. All good thoughts to keep in mind, except for the wet socks.

The gray days are hard - I struggle with them too. Taking pictures of the color changes does help, doesn't it?
