FO - My sister's bag

This is the shoulder/messenger bag I made for my sister. It's not from an actual pattern but I based most of the construction on Amy Butler's High Street Messenger Bag. I made it much simpler though. There's only one zipper (instead of three) and I put that one in to make a hidden pocket on the inside. To make that one, I used this tutorial from Sew, Mama Sew's blog. The flap is just a flap with no pocket in it. There's only one pleated pocket in front. This bag is smaller than the High Street Messenger Bag but easily holds a hardcover book, a bottle of (tap) water and essentials like wallet and keys.

The fabrics are bought at Åhléns and they are both thick cotton fabrics. I used interfacing on all pieces except for the strap. I reinforced the bottom with some kind of iron-on "plastic" that turned stiffer after it had been heated. I have no idea what it's called, and especially not in English... (I used the same stuff for EssJay's bag)

I'm very happy with how this bag turned out. No surprises in making it and my sister loves it. She's been using it every day since Christmas.

I can't decide which fabric I like better.

I love the fabric on the inside! (and I'm always impressed when people get such good results of projects with so many pieces. What patience and care!)

That bag is gorgeous, Anna!

From your description, it sounds like you mean "interfacing".

Brownishcoat: I guess it's a type of interfacing but this one happens to be adhesive on both sides and gets very stiff after heating and cooling down. It almost gets plastic-like.

Archiknist: :) Would you call 16 pieces many? 'Cause that's all there is. And one zipper and one piece of velcro.
