I need your help.
On Sunday we're going to attend a christening (baptism?) at my friends' house. I know we're required to bring a gift - and I have no problem with that - but what?
I'm struggling for ideas here. The parents are not religious. (My guess is that they're going ahead with a christening as it's in his family traditions.) It's a baby boy. I don't have time to make something myself before Sunday.
Would it be strange to give them a card that says I'll make a baby quilt for him during the fall? (I have already knit a cardigan for him and I know his parents truly appreciate homemade gifts.)
Or should I go buy something? So I have something "proper" to put in the gift box. And if yes, then what? Any ideas?

Det är ju alltid härligt med handgjorda presenter tycker jag! Jag har gjort en oro (eller mobil som de ibland kallas nuförtiden) att hänga upp vid barnets säng eller liknande till två vänbebisar. Den ena med ullgarn och tovade små figurer som hänger, och den andra som en klassisk, men mycket färgglad halmoro. Lycka till med funderandet!
Och förresten, ett "presentkort" på täcke är ju också jättefint!
Ja, igen om oro-förslaget. Det är en gammal, men ickekristen sed att hänga upp en oro vid barnets säng för att hålla undan onda andar och sånt. Samt fin att titta på förstås!
Hej! Sagoböcker brukar vara uppskattade. Även om han är för liten för böcker just nu, är det en present som han kommer att ha glädje av lite senare. Finns hur många underbara barnböcker som helst!

Do you have any of the fabric you'd use on the quilt? If so you could include a few squares of that in the card with the promise of the quilt. Or you could even say that you'll involve them in the process to pick out the fabric and the pattern. I don't think an I-owe-you is a bad thing - especially if the result will be a handmade gift!
Hej hej! Jag tror att de kommer att uppskatta om du skriver att du gör något åt honom under hösten. Det är, som du själv skrev, så mkt roligare att få ngt som ngn har gjort själv än att köpa ngt. I think a card like that would be appreciated very much! You could maybe put a few fabric samples and/or pictures of quilts in the package with the card if you want to make it more concrete. That way you could get a a few hints on what kind of quilt they'd like. :)
I bought my nephew's silver money boxes ....
I'd do some image searches for baby quilts, take 2-3 of the best ones and make a "gift certificate" with them. I did that when I was making some baby items for co-workers, and I think they appreciated the cards as much as the booties!
Jag brukar ge böcker med barnramsor, eller ännu hellre Lennart Hellsings ABC-bok. Agare bagare kopparslagare.. Eller en diktbok för barn t.ex. "Plommon till alla barn" av Lena Andersson. Den ska jag själv ge till min systerdotterdotter (som redan fått ett täcke.)
I once gave shoes to my friend's kids, and they were much appreciated. Shoes are often overlooked when condsidering a toddler's wardrobe! :)-Shell
