FO - Sophie the Rabbit

Chillin'
Chillin' Rabbit

Pattern: Sophie by Ysolda

Yarn: Cotton Sport from Idéna/Almedahl. A cotton/acrylic mix.

Neddles: 3mm/US2.5

Project time: August 19th, 2008 - August 23rd, 2008

Made for: A christening gift for a friend's baby boy

Thougts: This is the cutest toy I've ever made!!! (I won't mention that it's the only toy I've ever finished...) You pick up stitches to make the body, limbs and ears instead of making them separately and sew on afterwards. Sure, it was a bit fiddly at times (especially for the ears) but with a crochet hook it went fairly easy... (After I decided to just give up trying to understand Ysolda's picture of where to pick up those stitches and just swing it. This was advice given to me by my boyfriend after I had sighed and sworn for half an hour...)

This is one of the ear folds... Makes the ears fall very cutely.

To get a tight knit I used 3mm/US2.5 needles (3,5-4mm/US4-6 is suggested for Cotton Sport). I'm a tight knitter as it is and my hands hurt quite a bit knitting this as the yarn has no give to it whatsoever. But who said knitting will be good on your hands?

I think I stuffed the legs too much 'cause the Rabbit can't sit on its own. But by the time I noticed I wasn't in the mood to go back and frog the feet. This will be a sleepy Rabbit who will mostly be on his/hers back. :)

Swirly head

I decided to give the Rabbit a scarf and it's knit in an ecological cotton yarn (Tekla) from Ateljé Huskroken. I knitted it sideways to get a more interesting look than just ordinary stripes (and to get away from having to turn that little scarf around after every ten stitches...).

I think I'll make more of these. It was a quick knit and the result is just soooo cute. I love the floppy ears and long limbs.
